Blue Cross NC aims to dramatically cut Type 2 diabetes in North Carolina with a $5 million investment in the NC Prevents Diabetes initiative, which supports diabetes prevention programs through the state. These proven, comprehensive programs empower those at risk to prevent the disease, which increases the risk of stroke, heart disease and other serious health problems.
By enabling expansion of free access to prevention programs, the investment helps removes barriers that have historically prevented many North Carolinians from participating. It also helps expand program options such as online support groups.
“Diabetes has a major impact on people’s lives, and this investment gets us beyond the treatment and management of this devastating disease,” said Dr. Patrick Conway, Blue Cross NC president and CEO.
